ERBIL (Kurdistan24) - Several drones were shot down over Erbil on Saturday after Iran reportedly launched aerial attacks targeting U.S. military positions in the region, including near the American consulate and Erbil International Airport.
The developments come on Saturday, after Israel and the United States carried out joint strikes on Iranian territory. In response, Tehran has targeted U.S. military bases across the region with missile attacks.
Within that framework, Iran launched several drones toward the U.S. Consulate in Erbil and the city’s international airport. However, the drones were intercepted and brought down before reaching their intended targets.
SURROUNDED BY WAR, IN THE COLD OF WINTER, WITH NO ELECTRICITY, OUR PEOPLE GATHER AND ENCOURAGE THEMSELVES IN THE WORD OF GOD.
While the Iranian attacks were going on in Erbil and throughout the whole region, I called Pastor Layth at our Church in Duhok, it was about 11:30 pm. I happened to catch him at a home Bible Study he was doing with a small group of our people. They were all sitting in the dark by the glow of the kerosene heater they were using to heat the room. They were studying by the lights from their mobile phones because the power was out throughout the city.
As they all greeted me, I felt a surge of genuine joy run through me. What marvelous believers! Trapped in one of the most volatile and dangerous regions on earth, with little hope of escape, despite the danger and ongoing economic deprivation, they serve GOD and love one another with joy of heart.
The majority of Iraq's Christian's have fled the country, most of our congregation come from an Islamic background. They are protected in the autonomous Kurdish Region but not so in the rest of Iraq where they are subject to social and family persecution as well as governmental penalties. Despite this, there is a rapidly growing population of new believers. This is also true in Iran where thousands of Muslims are turning to Christ. Our Church in Duhok is currently involved in reaching these Persian people coming to Christ.
SINCE THE ISRAEL/HAMMAS/IRAN CONFLICT STARTED MISSIONS SUPPORT HAS DWINDLED DOWN TO A TRICKLE - WE DESPERATELY NEED YOUR HELP!
