It Can’t Happen Here!

As I observe the trends in the United States today, and watch the political scene, I can’t help but wonder how long it will be before what is happening in other countries will be a reality in our own. I know I cannot speak for everyone, but I think believers in this country, in general, do not take seriously the idea, that what is happening in the middle east and other places in the world could happen here. I’m talking about the right to worship the Father in the way we choose without fear of reprisal. I read an on-line publication that keeps track of religious around the world. It publishes a report on the fifty most difficult countries in the world in which to be a Christian. I get e-mails almost on a daily basis reporting atrocity after atrocity being committed on believers in these countries. It’s hard for Americans to relate to these things taking place because of our way of life. The freedoms you and I enjoy are not lost in an hour or a day or a month or a year, they are eroded over time. The erosion has been going on in our country for many years now, and I think we are seeing the effects slowly but surely taking their toll on our government and society. As I said last time, the greatest growth in the body of Christ has always been in times of great persecution. I wonder if that is what it will take for Americans to cry out to the Father. Everywhere I hear people asking when the next great move of God will come. I believe it will come, but I am not sure we are going to be ready for the way it will come. I will close with Paul’s admonition to the Ephesians: “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;” Eph. 6:13-15
